About Sorabird Co

What is Sorabird Co?

Sorabird Co. is a UK-registered, mission-led inclusive wellbeing company providing services for organisations and individuals. We believe that genuine wellbeing at work is only possible when the experiences of minoritised employees are centred, not as an afterthought, but as the foundation. Our services combine inclusive wellbeing assessments, wellbeing sessions, inclusion training, anonymous reporting, and therapy, all designed to help every member of your flock soar.

What does intersectional wellbeing mean?

Intersectional wellbeing means recognising that people's experiences of health, work, and healing are shaped by their overlapping identities, including race, gender, disability, sexuality, class, and more. A one-size-fits-all approach to employee inclusion and wellbeing often misses or can even harm those navigating multiple layers of discrimination. Sorabird's services are designed to address those layers directly, creating support that genuinely works for everyone by centring with those most affected by harm.

What does 'Sorabird' mean?

Sora means sky in Japanese, a symbol of openness, freedom, and expanse. This honours the Japanese origins of our founder Sellisha Lockyer's inspiration to build the business, following a Buddhist retreat in the mountains of Nagano. The bird in our logo is the Jamaican Doctor Bird, honouring Sellisha's Jamaican heritage, a bird that symbolises freedom, resistance to oppression, and the refusal to be caged. Together, the name reflects our mission: helping people soar from the inside out, and the outside in.

Is Sorabird Co a mission-led business?

Yes. Sorabird Co. is a mission-locked, values-anchored business registered as a Ltd company in the UK. We are guided by Quaker business principles, grounded in integrity, equality, simplicity, and stewardship. This means we hold ourselves accountable not just to profit, but to purpose, and we build that accountability into how we operate from the very beginning, not as an afterthought.

Where is Sorabird Co based?

Sorabird Co is registered in the UK and serves UK-based organisations and companies operating in Japan. Our founder is based in Japan, which informs our unique perspective on cross-cultural inclusion and workplace wellbeing.

How does the Justice Circle model work?

The Justice Circle is Sorabird's redistributive model, and it is central to why we exist. Our intention is that a proportion of revenue funds wellbeing services and resources for minoritised individuals and communities who cannot otherwise access them. We are currently in our pilot phase, building the evidence and infrastructure to make this a reality. We are also committed to paying practitioners at above-market, justice-aligned rates, because we believe fair pay is not a bonus, it is a baseline. Every decision we make is oriented toward rebalancing rather than replicating existing inequalities.

For Organisations & HR Teams

How is Sorabird Co different from our existing EAP?

Sorabird is not an EAP and is not designed to replace one. We are an inclusive wellbeing service that works alongside your existing provision to fill the gaps that standard EAPs are not yet serving. For many organisations, EAP utilisation rates sit as low as 5-10%, and provision tends to focus on crisis management rather than early, preventative support. Sorabird complements that foundation by centring the experiences of minoritised employees, the people most likely to be underserved by a universal provision, while delivering wellbeing and inclusion support that benefits your whole organisation.

What services do you offer organisations?

Our current service offering is delivered by our team and practitioner network, with a digital platform in development to enhance and streamline access over time. Services available now include: Soar Sessions (facilitated virtual wellbeing sessions), Inclusion training, Clearsky Reporting™ (an anonymous speak-up service), Inclusion Assessments with Flock View reporting (regular analytics reports on your organisation's wellbeing and inclusion progress), and culturally competent psychotherapy bundles.

What is the Soar Score?

The Soar Score is Sorabird's inclusive wellbeing impact metric. It gives organisations an ongoing, evidence-based picture of where their workforce sits on the Soar Scale: from Caged (where harmful systems are normalised) through Clipped, Perched, and Scaling, all the way to Soaring (where wellbeing and inclusion are fully embedded). Rather than a one-off survey, the Soar Score tracks meaningful change over time. It is generated on completion of an Inside Out or Outside In assessment and delivered as part of your Flock View report.

What is Flock View?

Flock View is Sorabird's organisational wellbeing and inclusion reporting service. Following completion of an Inside Out or Outside In assessment, employers receive a Flock View report translating their Soar Score data into clear insights and actionable recommendations. It helps HR teams and leadership understand their culture honestly and make informed decisions about where to focus. As we build our platform, Flock View will evolve into a live analytics dashboard, but the insight and guidance it provides is available to clients right now.

What is Clearsky Reporting™?

Clearsky Reporting™ is Sorabird's anonymous speak-up service. It gives employees a safer way to raise workplace concerns (particularly around discrimination, exclusion, and harm) without fear of identification. For employers, it provides honest insight into what is really happening in your organisation, along with guidance on how to respond in ways that create structural change.

What therapy support can we offer our employees through Sorabird?

Sorabird's therapy bundles give employees access to trauma-informed, culturally competent 1:1 therapy through our carefully selected practitioner network. Employers purchase a bundle of therapy hours pooled for staff to draw from confidentially. Sorabird matches each person to a therapist with identity-matching considerations, meaning people can be connected with a therapist who understands their background and lived experience. This matters because therapy that ignores discrimination can retraumatise rather than heal.

How Sorabird works as a partner to your organisation.

Can Sorabird work with organisations of any size?

We work with organisations of varying sizes, from growing SMEs to larger employers. We are currently welcoming pilot clients and are seeking organisations ready to explore what inclusive wellbeing looks like in practice, with the opportunity to shape the service as it grows. Get in touch to find out more about our pilot programme and what's right for your flock.

For Benefits Providers and EAPs

How does Sorabird compliment our existing offering?

Sorabird fills the inclusion gap that most benefits platforms currently have. Minoritised employees (who are among the highest-need groups) consistently under-use standard wellbeing provision because they don't see themselves reflected in it. Sorabird addresses this directly, increasing utilisation among the employees most likely to disengage, while giving benefits providers a genuinely differentiated offering in a saturated market.

How would a partnership with Sorabird Co work?

We have developed three distinct ways of working with benefits providers, depending on where you are in your inclusion journey. We are also open to exploring other models. If none of these feel quite right, get in touch and we can work something out together.

  • Sorabird Advisory An audit of your existing services through an intersectional lens. We review your resources, practitioner matching criteria, and manager training content, identifying where inclusion gaps exist and how to address them. We start with a focused taster review as an accessible entry point, moving into a comprehensive advisory engagement for those ready to go further. Includes written recommendations and presentation of findings.

  • Intersectional Content Creation Sorabird creates new intersectional content such as resources, guides, and training materials. These all sit inside your existing platform or programme. This is the natural follow-on from an advisory review, ensuring that recommendations translate into tangible, ready-to-use resources for your clients, but can also be commissioned as a standalone engagement.

  • Delivery Partnership Sorabird delivers directly to your clients as a specialist inclusive wellbeing partner. This takes two forms:

    • Soar Sessions and Live Events — facilitated wellbeing sessions and inclusion training delivered to employees across your client base, either as standalone events or embedded into an existing live events programme. The natural entry point is our Reclaiming Joy session, expanding over time to other Soar Sessions and training.

    • Identity Networks — facilitated peer communities for racialised, LGBTQ+, and disabled employees drawn from across your client organisations. These cross-organisation spaces grow more valuable the more organisations participate. No EAP or benefits platform can manufacture this kind of community themselves — it requires the independence and trust that Sorabird brings.

All partnership models are priced on scope. Get in touch to start the conversation.

What is the case for adding Sorabird to our existing offering?

Do you have data on the utilisation of your services by people from minoritised backgrounds? Research shows that 54% of Black employees and 51% of LGBTQ+ people say not being able to be themselves at work directly affects their productivity and mental health. These are the people Sorabird exists to help, and we can help you to help them, by offering something genuinely tailored to minoritised experiences that builds the trust and safety needed for people to actually engage. The result is better outcomes for employees, reduced risk for organisations, and stronger utilisation figures for your platform.

How Sorabird fills the inclusion gap in your wellbeing offer.

For Membership Organisations

How can Sorabird work with membership organisations?

Sorabird partners with membership organisations to provide inclusive wellbeing support directly to members. We also support membership organisations to become more inclusive themselves, through inclusion training, organisational assessments, and Flock View reporting.

Why is a membership organisation a good setting for this kind of support?

Membership organisations offer something an employer-provided provision cannot: distance. When wellbeing support sits outside the employment relationship, members can engage more honestly, explore difficult experiences more freely, and seek help without fear of professional consequences. For minoritised members navigating discrimination at work, that distance is not just preferable, it can be the difference between accessing support and not accessing it at all.

What kind of support can we offer members through Sorabird?

Through a Sorabird partnership, membership organisations can offer members access to:

  • Soar Sessions our programme of inclusive virtual wellbeing sessions, inclusion training,

  • Identity Networks - facilitated peer communities where members can connect around shared aspects of their identity and

  • Soar Score inclusion assessments to understand the wellbeing of members and receive a Flock View report.

Inclusive therapy bundles and Clearsky Reporting™ are also available as part of a tailored membership package.

If none of these feel quite right, get in touch and we can work something out together.

How does Sorabird help membership organisations become more inclusive?

As well as supporting your members, we work with membership organisations on their own culture and practices. This includes inclusion training for staff and leadership, organisational assessments using our Soar Framework, and Flock View reporting which gives your organisation an honest, evidence-based picture of where you are on your inclusion journey and what to focus on next.

What makes Sorabird Co different from other wellbeing providers?

Most wellbeing providers offer generic support that wasn't designed with minoritised experiences in mind. Sorabird's Soar Framework starts with those most affected by discrimination and designs from there, which means the support is genuinely useful for members navigating racism, ableism, homophobia, and other forms of harm, while remaining beneficial for all members. We also bring expertise in inclusive wellbeing that most providers simply don't have.

Inclusive wellbeing support for your members, and for your organisation.
